Officer Osso was on post in a store when he noticed an individual behaving peculiarly in the electronics area. He notified staff and was going about his duties when he responded to a call concerning an individual at the jewelry counter, which proved to be the same individual he saw earlier in electronics. The individual appeared to be concealing merchandise. When confronted, he dumped merchandise on the floor and threw food at an employee. He was instructed to leave but refused. Officer Osso began escorting the individual toward the exit, where he became increasingly aggressive.
The individual pulled a knife out, and threatened to “kill”, “stab” and “cut” the managers and officer, insisting he wasn’t afraid to use his weapon. Officer Osso moved the manager to safety and defused the situation by calmly talking to the individual, who left the store knife still in hand.
Officer Osso had been communicating with Officer Mitchell, who was ready and waiting in the parking lot with the Brosnan SmartTruck. Officer Mitchell kept eyes on the individual until the police arrived, using the truck’s lightbar so the police could easily identify the suspect.
The individual was arrested for 1 count of Armed Robbery and 3 counts of Assault and taken to the county jail.
No employees, customers or Brosnan officers were harmed.
